Events Running Continuously Both Saturday and Sunday

Baking Demonstrations

Lefse and krumkake demonstrations are held continuously, throughout each day in the Gnome Dome tent. See how these authentic Scandinavian delights are made.

Free, Fun, Children's Activities

How fast can you run carrying herring on a spatula? Do you like to look for hidden jewels? Or are mallets and wood blocks more your style? How about painted dragons? These FREE kids activities are going on throughout the weekend (Saturday 9-3 and Sunday after the live nativity until 2) . Also check out the Hobby Horse Races on the daily schedules.

Children's Workshops (heated)

Free craft projects for children in the Gnome Dome tent.

Food Trucks

Located on Church Street next to the Outdoor market, Troll Village, and the Depot as well as in the blue stuga next to the Recreation Building. See the Food  page for vendors and menus.

Gnome Dome Tent (heated)

 Scandinavian Bakeri -  baked goods of all kinds. Free children's workshops.

Indoor Market (heated)

Indoor vendors with local, hand-made seasonal gifts, gift ideas and goodies! Located in the Recreation Building. No food served inside. 

Information Booth

 Information on locations, activities, food, vendors, train schedules and more. 

Music (heated areas and outside)

Watch for the strolling accordian player Steve Solkela as he wanders the grounds.  Listen to carolers under the direction of Lawrence Burkhard, as they appear at various times throughout the grounds.

Outdoor Market

OutdoorChristmas village  market huts house wide variety of talented vendors, Scandinavian food,  Bakeri, and kids Games.

Located in Troll Village!

Santa

Come visit and share your secret wish with this jolly old fellow. Great, free, photo ops with Santa 

Sledding

 Bring your sled for family fun on our sledding hill (weather permitting).

Multi-talented and FUN musician roaming the grounds. Keep an eye out for him.


10:00 - 10:30 Flag Celebration (Julebyen Grounds)

Listen to the anthems of our international flag countries.


11:00am Live Nativity and Carolers (on the Julebyen Festival Grounds)

Bring your family for this favorite event, and a big one this year! Theme: The Story of Jesus' Birth Choir: JOYFUL under direction of Patti Stoddard Narrator: Tim Anderson Actors: Knife River Youth and Adults - locals and relatives of local residents REAL ANIMALS: HORSES, GOATS, A MINIATURE COW, SHEEP, A DONKEY and a CAMEL!! Lots of opportunities to feed and interact with animals afterward.

Come aboard the Troll Train as we journey with our story teller to visit the grouchy troll living under the bridge in a nearby canyon. Purchase tickets at the Knife River Train Depot:


11:00-2:00 Krumkake Demonstrations (in the Gnome Dome tent)

Come to the Gnome Dome tent for continuous krumkake baking demonstrations.


11:45 - 12:15 Gunny and Liv (on the Gnome Dome Indoor Stage)

Guitar and cello music for the season!


12:00pm Blacksmithing Demonstration (in Troll Village)

Watch ironsmith Ben Fiasher-Merritt as he creates beautiful and unique iron pieces on his portable, hand-cranked coal forge!

Come aboard the Troll Train as we journey with our story teller to visit the grouchy troll living under the bridge in a nearby canyon. Purchase tickets at the Knife River Train Depot:

Listen to the amazing Two Harbors Ukulele Group (THUG) performing in the Gnome Dome.

John’s music ranges from folk and Americana to country and semi-classical. He is a former 1st Place winner on the A Prairie Home Companion Talent Show.
